June already??!!

I can't believe how fast the year has gone by. I missed a few months on here and don't even know where the time has gone. We are busy finishing projects and doing the "end of the year" assessments. We are making home made math games showing the learning of the all the math concepts this year. We are almost ready to perform our Robert Munsch plays that we will be showing to the grade 3's( who actually saw Robert Munsch in Regina last month). It has been a great year!

We have been extremely busy in class! We have been polishing our acting skills as we have incorporated drama into many different subjects. We read a mystery novel in literature circles in small groups and then as a final project wrote out scripts for the book. We are going to perform them this week. We are also working on a STOMP performance in groups where we use everyday items found in the equipment room to make beats and rhythms as a group. We have also been talking about bullying and the importance of the caring strategies to stop the bullying situation. We designed one minute plays to show how a bullying problem can be solved. We video taped them and will make a bullying video to share with the school. On April 28 we are going to the Art Museum to join with other schools in the division and in the Catholic division to watch their bullying videos too. It should be a fun morning. As you can see we never have a dull moment!

Plays to "Ponder"

Today the class performed their plays for each other in the music room. We invited parents to come and a few joined us. The plays went great as most of the lines were memorized and props and costumes were organized. Students were put in groups according to the plays they were wanting to do, and they then got to work independently, deciding on characters and props. They had a few weeks to prepare for the big day. I was happy with the performances as each play had a life lesson and it was nice to see grade 5 students discussing the issues. Great job, grade 5's!!

We are Finally up and Running!

We finally have our blogs on the go. It took a while for us to get our usernames and passwords in order, but we did end up getting each blog working. Keep posted for our blogs. We will focus on different current events and personal stories as we make a strong effort to use our writing skills that we have been learning in Writer's Workshop. (explode the moment, show don't tell, complex and compound sentences)

This year has started off with a bang as we are busy with assessments and getting comfortable with routine.  We are very excited to have our very own computer in the comfort of our classroom.  We have already used them to research in Science and to do some typing in L.A.  We will be blogging very soon.  Keep posted!

Today we opened all 30 of our own laptops to use in our classroom.  We are very excited of all the ways that we are going to use them this year!  We will start blogging soon where we will write about different things that we are learning and also our thoughts and opinions on different topics.
